Stained Glass Windows
In 2014, during the construction of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, the Pastor and a select committee determined which Biblical scenses would be depicted on the church's new stained glass windows. Each window, they decided should show a vivid action scene based on a different story from the BIble. The windows on the right of the church's main doors are Old Testament scenes. The windows on the left are New Testament scenes. The committee worked with Statesville Stained Glass Windows approximately five years to create over thirty magnificent windows. Each is, geniunely, a beautiful piece of art.
THE BORDERS
In planning the windows, one of the first decisions that had to be made was what kind of outside trim or borders would be used consistently on all the windows. The first consideration was the sie and composition of the borders. A second consideration was to make them compliment the Biblical scenes in the windows but not overpower them. Therefore, grapes are used as a reminder of the Eucharist and God's vineyard. Flowers and trees like the dogwood are used because they are native to this area.
THE SYMBOLS AT THE TOP OF EACH WINDOW
The symbol at the top of each window is significant. It is related to the content of the biblical story pictured in the stained glass window.
THE CHOICE OF COLORS IN THE WINDOWS
At times, the colors usied in the stained glass windows have great significance. Sometimes the artist selected colors thtat would become richer and more pleasing to the eye as the natural light filtered through the windows. At other times, colorchoices may have been dictated by the color scheme of the window or by the artists' personal experience.
