The Sacraments
Baptism
Baptisms are held on Saturdays at 3:00pm or 6:00pm and must be scheduled ahead of time. To schedule a baptism, please call the office at 336-246-9151.
PARISH GUIDELINES FOR BAPTISM
Baptism is one of the 7 Sacraments in the Catholic Church. When a child or adult receive this sacrament it is a most joyous time for the one receiving the sacrament, for the family and for the Catholic Community.
The following are the guidelines established by St. Francis of Assisi parish.
Parents/Families
Parents/families seeking baptism for their child(ren) must be registered with the parish at least 30 days prior to scheduling the baptism.
Baptismal prep classes are scheduled as needed with Father Jacob or an appointed delegate.
Sponsors/Godparents/Padrinos
Sponsors/Godparents/Padrinos must be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Sponsors/Godparents/Padrinos - can have 1 or 2.
If the family chooses 2 Godparents they must choose a man and a woman; they cannot choose 2 Godparents of the same sex.
If chosen Godparents/Padrinos cannot attend, proxies are chosen.
Parents and Godparents/Padrinos must attend a Baptismal Prep class (or group of classes depending on the parish requirements) at their home parish.
Certificate of attendance or letter stating the class was completed must be presented to church office no later than 14 days prior to the baptism.
Members of another parish requesting baptism at SFA must get a letter of permission from their pastor for the baptism to be done at SFA.
Paperwork
Paperwork to be completed when requesting baptism: Baptismal Information Sheet, Sponsors/Godparents Eligibility Form (s) and Parishioner Update Form.
All paperwork must be received in the office no later than 14 days prior to baptism.
